Our home has a limestone exterior and I've noticed some areas are starting to look a little discolored. This is mainly closer to the ground in spots where it may have a little more exposure to to water/rain.

Is there a way to clean the stone that doesn't do any damage? I would think it probably isn't the best idea to power wash it, but was wondering if there is some sort of solution or spray that might help. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

If it's mildew or mold, try JoMax (sp?). It's at Home Depot with the deck water seal. You spray it on and spray it off. Works really well.

Plain old Clorox bleach works well too. I use it on my porch floors (cement) to remove the clay stains. I dilute it some though with water.

Yes, it is the grayish and/or greenish mildew-type stains. Thank you both for the suggestions. I'll have to give it a try.

Careful not to nuke any nearby plants. Hose them down with water first or cover them. Don't let any bleach solution dry on the limestone...makes it tougher to get off. You might try one of the 'oxy' type cleaners...I believe one is specifically formulated for outdoor cleaning. Here in ATL, the water crisis means we can't clean our own outdoor projects...only a pro can pressure wash, etc. Sure would be nice to have some water!

Sorry Mike, didn't see your 'Oxy' suggestion.

I cleaned my limestone rocks with bleech, and it removed the black stains fine. Now I'm seeing another problem in the smaller 6x6 stones, some that I cleaned and some that I didn't clean. The larger stones do not have these brown holes appearing in them. See pic.
